VICE PRESIDENT FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING



The Vice President for Teaching and Learning is the College's chief academic officer, providing leadership and supervision for the College's degree and certificate programs, academic support services, and the growth and development of the faculty. The Vice President is responsible to the President for the development and implementation of academic and personnel policies consistent with applicable laws, accreditation and WV State Board of Directors policies and guidelines, and College policies to assure legal, ethical, and equitable practices. In carrying out the work of the academic area throughout the service area, the Vice President is expected to work in coordination with other area heads as well as with the personnel of the academic area, and has the following responsibilities:



1. Formulates and recommends academic and faculty personnel policies and procedures.



2. Leads the supervision of faculty, curriculum, courses, and methods of instruction at all locations, times and academic terms, with an emphasis on learning, excellence, and continuous assessment and improvement.



3. Recommends to the President the employment, promotion, tenure, demotion, and dismissal of all faculty as well as employment of administrative and staff positions in the teaching and learning area.



4. Implements effective supervisory and evaluation processes for all administrative and staff positions in the teaching and learning area.



5. Implements all academic and faculty policies and procedures, including judicial and disciplinary processes.



6. Leads the supervision, development, and revision of academic programs, courses and services assuring that such development and revisions lead to employability skills for the workplace, continuing education, and/or transfer.



7. Provides for a variety of instructional methodologies, including utilization of instructional technologies, which accommodate diverse student needs and learning styles and which promote students' use of state-of-the-art tools and continued learning.



8. Organizes and implements a variety of instructional delivery systems which provide accessibility for adults throughout the service area, both by location and times.



9. Leads the assessment and continuous improvement processes of student academic achievement, courses, and programs.



10. Organizes and implements a variety of learning support systems which promote retention to goal attainment, student academic achievement, and connection of students to the workplace and transfer education, programs such as program orientation, academic advising, tutoring and supplemental instruction, and developmental programs.



11. Coordinates needs and processes with other area administrators to assure smooth transitions into degree programs, joint planning for resources, materials, and technology support needs, supportive research information and marketing of programs, application of human resource practices, and meeting needs and maintaining services and standards throughout the entire tri-campus region.



12. Develops agreements with secondary schools, vocational centers, and colleges and universities for the articulation of programs which facilitate the matriculation and transfer of students.



13. Chairs or supervises a delegated chair of the Academic Affairs Committee and Assessment Committee.



14. Performs other duties as assigned by the President.
