R. Lucki called the meeting to order at 2:05 pm in the Culinary Arts Dining Room.

 

$                    Minutes: The minutes from the April 2004 Faculty Senate meeting were approved as posted on the web page.  (Watson/Berry)

 

 

$                    Tuition and Fees Collection Policy

$                     The rewrite by K. Herrington has been sent to faculty for comment.  The new version takes the faculty out of an enforcement role.  Please forward any further comment to R. Lucki.

$                    Department Chairs

$                    The new chairs for the 2004-2005 academic year have been appointed.

$                    S. Rychlicki requests that a job description be sent to all faculty to make it clear what the position entails.

$                    College Wide Attendance Policy

$                    Following discussion the faculty prefer to have their own attendance policy in each course rather than a college wide attendance policy

            Faculty oppose a college wide attendance policy (Grubor/Craig)

            Comment:  Faculty will address this at a departmental or faculty level instead.

M. Davis reported that the four year colleges will no longer provide developmental education.  The community colleges will be the only arena for developmental education.  56% of entering college freshman do not meet entrance requirements.  Dr. Hunter, Mr. Daley, and Mr. Woodburn are aware of this potential for FTE’s.

Exploring the annual employment incentive given to all state employees other than faculty.  This is a $50 per year of service bonus given to each employee.

$                    Great Teachers Seminar

$                    We still have an opening for a faculty member to attend the seminar.

                        N. Krupinski will attend.

$                    Safety

Faculty voiced concerns that the police had not been present at the Hazel Atlas building at 9:30 pm on three occasions.  They are supposed to be present until at 10:15pm.

            T. Danford suggested implementing an evening log sheet that the campus police utilize to account for all in building before they leave.

$                    N. Krupinski announced that the Surgical Technology program has been accredited for ten years and with high honors.

 

Adjournment:  With no further business, the faculty senate meeting was adjourned at 3:00 pm.  (Watson/Berry).  The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held during the first week of the next academic year.
