Information Update

o       A 1990 opinion by the Attorney Generals office denies public employees work stoppages and the right to strike.

o       As faculty members we are considered under this opinion to be public employees bound by the ruling.

Schedule for January 3rd through January 10th 2005

o       All faculty have been mandated fifteen hours (3 hours per day) for advising in their respective offices.

o       Faculty requested that the Senate president contact Bruce Walker for legal advice concerning the relevance of  the 1990 opinion  stated above. (Vavra/Dale)

Discussion

o       Faculty voted by majority to accept the 12/3/04 resolution

o       Information and discussions followed concerning the Grievance Procedures for Education and State Employees.

o                   Faculty voted unanimously in favor of starting a collective grievance procedure in lieu of the resolution. Senate members volunteered to begin the process.

o       It was reported that surplus funds have been identified to assist in purchasing new furniture for the College Square project. Faculty Senate  unanimously voted to have the Budget Committee members present a request that surplus funds be made available to adjust all faculty salaries to their minimum salary according to rank and adjust all classified staff salaries to their appropriate position on the Mercer scale.

The next meeting of Faculty Senate will be held January 10th at 8:15 in the Culinary Arts Room in the HA Building.
