Basic Responsibilities of Teaching Faculty
Members of the teaching faculty have three primary areas of responsibility: instruction
and academic advising, professional development, and institutional and community
service. The faculty members will be responsible for activities in the following areas:
The faculty will:
- provide instruction and conduct classes in accordance with a syllabus which includes
a list of measurable course outcomes.
- cooperate in the development of curriculum, course syllabi, selection of textbooks
and recommendations of library materials, instructional materials, equipment and
supplies.
- evaluate student progress through regularly scheduled formative and summative
assessment methods.
- assess courses and programs, keep accurate student and course records, and
submit reports and records when required.
- communicate with assigned advisees, assist with the tracking of progress of these
advisees, and assist them in their orientation into their programs and the college.
- refer to the administration any students whose academic or personal needs require
special attention.
- meet assigned classes and maintain an approved and posted schedule of student
conference advising hours.
The faculty will assume the responsibility for keeping a professional improvement plan
and a program or discipline charter of responsibility.
The faculty will:
- be familiar with the mission, goals, and academic policies of the College.
- attend faculty meetings, division meetings, and other meetings called by authorized
personnel.
- participate in commencement exercises.
- substitute for colleagues on a reciprocal basis for approved short term absences, as
practicable.
