DIVISION CHAIR
Division Chairs are twelve-month personnel who serve as academic administrators and maintain faculty status. Chairs provide supervisory leadership for full-time and part-time faculty and academic program development, implementation, and assessment. The Division Chairs report to the Vice President for Teaching and Learning whom they assist in implementing faculty personnel policies and the supervision of curriculum, courses, methods, and delivery of instruction throughout the College service area. As faculty, Chairs maintain faculty salary placement and rank and are evaluated in their instructional responsibilities. As Chairs, they are appointed on an annual basis, by supplemental contract, and are evaluated in their administrative responsibilities separately from their instructional responsibilities. In carrying out their responsibilities, Chairs are expected to enforce the applicable federal and state laws, policies and guidelines of the WV Board of Directors, accrediting agencies, and the College, as well as workplace and transfer expectations. Division Chairs provide leadership in curriculum and in faculty development.
I. Leadership in Development and Implementation of Certificate and Degree Programs and other Curriculum Development.
A. Supervises the development and implementation of academic programs and courses, workforce and transfer education needs and ensures the standards, guidelines, and expectations of accrediting agencies in coordination with other College personnel with related support responsibilities.
B. Performs the responsibilities of the Program Director in the absence of a Program Director.
C. Leads course development if courses are not in an assigned faculty team area.
D. Identifies market needs and develops recommendations and plans regarding new program development as well as recommendations regarding the continuation, revision, suspension, elimination, or other actions (such as collaborations or partnerships with other colleges or agencies) regarding existing programs.
E. Recommends final program advisory committee and program team membership.
F. Supervises the implementation of academic programs and develops recommendations regarding times, locations, and delivery systems for programs throughout the service area, in consultation with campus deans, the Associate Deans, and with input from program faculty.
G. Recommends specific course times, delivery methods, and staffing of class sections within adopted program availability determinations, working with the Associate Deans responsible for scheduling and developing adjustments and revisions as needed for effective scheduling and management of the schedule.
II. Leadership in Faculty Development
A. Develops recommendations regarding faculty, Program Directors, and other personnel in the division area.
B. Chairs the search committee and recommends the appointment of new division full-time faculty members and identifies and recommends the appointment of part-time faculty members, with assistance from campus deans and other faculty, as appropriate.
C. Encourages and evaluates faculty in program and course development, instructional strategies and methodologies, assessment, and professional development goals and activities which lead to continuous improvement in student learning and academic achievement.
D. Supervises and evaluates full-time faculty and develops recommendations concerning goal implementation plans (GIP), reappointment, rank, and tenure.
E. Supervises the divisional orientation, mentoring, and evaluation of part-time faculty, with assistance from full-time faculty and Program Directors as appropriate.
F. Supervises the Program Directors and makes recommendations for employment, orientation to responsibilities, and annual evaluations.
III. Additional Administrative Responsibilities
A. Facilitates resolution of student and faculty requests, complaints, and petitions consistent with division courses and activities.
B. Facilitates the development of divisional budget requests, needs for supplies and equipment, textbook selection and orders, supplementary materials and equipment, and academic service needs.
C. Develops recommendations regarding the employment of full-time and part-time staff needed to carry out the applicable responsibilities and supervises full-time and part-time staff as assigned.
D. Completes other appropriate duties as assigned by the Vice President.
