ASSOCIATE DEAN OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS



This draft position description represents an expansion of the current position, which is estimated as approximately 50% of a full-time position. The impact of this recommendation will require adjustments related to the other 50% of the current position, as well as review for classification and title consistent with state guidelines.

The Associate Dean of Academic Affairs is a classified position reporting to the Vice President for Teaching and Learning, with responsibilities for providing leadership assistance in development and implementation of systems and processes in support of program and course development, assessment for student academic achievement, scheduling and management of schedules, and articulation of academic programs with secondary schools and colleges. The Associate Dean facilitates systems and processes with various faculty teams and other academic administrators as well as with involvement of personnel in student development, marketing and institutional research, community business development service areas, and others. In carrying out the responsibilities, the Associate Dean is expected to enforce the applicable federal and state laws, policies and guidelines of the WV Board of Directors, accrediting agencies, and the College. More specifically, the Associate Dean has the following duties and responsibilities:



1. Develops and implements processes which guide faculty teams in program development and review, assuring that appropriate research information is gathered and utilized and that goals for job placement and transfer as well as WV Board of Directors, College, and accreditation requirements are met.



2. Facilitates the development of program and course information for effective communication in the College's catalog and other publications and maintains and disseminates up-to-date program and course information.



3. Facilitates the development of information and recommendations for all program reviews and prepares the final reports for submission.



4. Provides leadership in the development of academic program implementation plans, in coordination with the regional campus deans, division chairs, and the associate dean for instructional support.



5. Develops the academic schedule of classes for all locations, times, and delivery systems, in consultation with division chairs and the associate dean for instructional support.



6. Develops and implements processes which result in a College assessment plan for student academic achievement which meets state, federal, and accreditation standards and requirements, which is continuously updated and evaluated, and which assures that the plan is effective in achieving desired results.



7. Facilitates the implementation of the College's assessment plan, assisting faculty teams in their development and implementation of program, course, and instructional assessment projects and through assistance in identification of research models, data and data analysis, as needed. Assistance and orientation of part-time faculty in implementing the assessment plan is included.

8. Chairs the College's Assessment Committee and serves as the College's representative in state assessment councils and committees.



9. Facilitates the development of articulation agreements with secondary schools, vocational centers (including tech-prep) and colleges and maintains and disseminates information as needed.



10. Develops and implements policies and processes which assures that the College's Early Entrance offerings meet the same standards as all College courses and that adequate and accurate information and orientation is provided to schools and faculty as well as participating parents, students, and faculty.



11. Facilitates review processes for evaluating and determining award of credit for experiential learning through portfolios and for skills and knowledge attained in non-credit courses and other formal training.



12. Develops recommendations regarding the employment of full-time and part-time personnel needed to carry out the applicable systems and processes and supervises full-time and part-time personnel as assigned.



13. Completes other related duties as assigned by the Vice President for Teaching and Learning.
