MESSAGES
Messages are pre-recorded responses that the MOO presents to characters upon some
specific action. Every MOO object has a set of default messages. Messages can be
customized and personalized. In doing so, the following notations are used:
- •%N - character's DU name
- •%L - character's location
Messages can be changed by typing: '@<message> <object> is "xxxxx.' In customizing
personal character messages use the syntax: '@<message> me is "xxxx.' Example:
typing '@page_absent me is "%N isn't here right now.' would change the default
message (%N is not currently logged in.)
The default messages on your character are:
- @more me is "***More***%n lines left. Do @more[rest|flush] for more."
- @page_absent me is "%N is not currently logged in."
- @page_origin me is "You sense the %N is looking for you in %L."
- @page_echo me is "Your messages has been sent."
- @plan me is "no plan."
- @smell me isn't set (@smell me is "xxxx.")
- @osmell me isn't set (@osmell me is "xxxx.")
- @project me is "No Project."
- @hometown me isn't set (@hometown me is "wherever.")
- @leave me is "%N suddenly %<disappears>."
- @join me is "%N %<joins>you."
- @duty me is "is working."
- @offduty me is "isn't working at the moment."
- @arrive me is "%N%<arrives> from nowhere."
- @title me isn't set (@title me is "xxxx.")
- @idle me is "idle."
- @sleeping me is "asleep"
- @page_refuse me is "%N refuses your page."
- @knock me is "You knock politely and ask %N if you may @join %o."
- @oknock me is "%N knocks politely and wonders if %s may @join."
- @invite me is "%N invites you to @join %o within the next %{interval}."
- @oinvite me is "%N invites %d to join %o here.
- @page_idle me is "%N seems to be dozing. %S has been idel for %{idle_time} now."
- @paged_echo me is "You paged %n with: "
- @page_recorded me is "Your message has been recorded on %n's answering
machine."
- @remote_echo me is "To %N [in %L]:"
The most important messages to customize are: @arrive, @leave, @plan,
@hometown, @idle, and @sleeping. Students must customize at least one message
before becoming a builder (see Builder requirements). Other messages may be
changed as well, students' choice.
