ICONS, URLS, AND HTML FOR OBJECTS

Each MOO object can have an icon attached to it. Many of the generic objects have icons attached. These can be changed by the object's owner. In addition, each object may have either a URL or an HTML document attached. All three of these options are available from the Web editor and from the text, command line.

Directions for the command line (typed input):

@icon <object> is "http://.....complete address" You must enclose the specific icon location in double quotes.

Example: @icon mycell is "http://www.northern.wvnet.edu/~tdanford/icons/sillygrin.gif"

@url <object> is "http:// .... complete address" Again, URL must be enclosed in quotes

[if you are interested in the @html text command, see Danford; this is much easier in the web editor and most students will not be using this command anyway]

Directions from the web editor:

- click on Applications at the bottom of the web page

- click on 6) Object Browser/Editor

- select an action: Edit

- scroll down to the bottom of the Common Characteristics section

- find the Icon, URL or HTML section

1) make sure you check the square checkbox on the left side of the input boxes... if it is not checked, any changes you make will not be saved

2) enter the changes into the Icon or the URL line ... be sure to type or copy the address correctly

3) for use of the HTML box, contact Danford

4) scroll down to the link to the top of the Common Characteristics section (click it) or scroll up to the top of the Common Characteristics section

5) click Update Common Characteristics

There are some icons located in one of my account directories and I will place any additional ones there, ones that you find. You can search for icons by going to any search engine and using "icons" as a keyword. Meanwhile, check out the icons already available:

http://www.northern.wvnet.edu/~tdanford/icons/

This page should be a listing of icon files. Click on anyone to see the icon; use the BACK button to return to the list. To use one of these icons, use the entire address, i.e., "http://www.northern.wvnet.edu/~tdanford/icons/filename.gif" (this is not a link, filename must replaced by the specific icon's filename).
