Connecting to DU for the Very First Time

First, follow the directions on Using the Two Window System at DU to set up GMUD on your machine. Once you have GMUD configured, then connect to DU using it.

1. DU will ask you if you are using a speech synthesizer. Answer this question by typing NO or YES into the input line.

2. You should arrive at your "home" for the course; that would be Bio*Space for BIO 110 or the Micro-Student-Lounge for BIO 117.

3. Now load the webpage, so you can use the convenience of pointing and clicking rather than always having to know and type the commands. Many functions of the software program will be available from the webpage; all functions except viewing graphics are available through the telnet GMUD connection.

4. Character Customization - this needs done as your first "chore" at DU. The following directions are designed to be used on the webpage, however, typed commands do exist to do all of this as well.

• a. Scroll to the bottom of the webpage and click on Applications
• b. Click on 5. Character Customization
• c. Fill in the following information:


• -description: use a short, physical description that you would want others at the MOO to see when they look at you
• - gender: choose the appropriate gender (male or female please)
• - additional information: please fill in this box with your real name, your school affiliation, your major academic goal, and your complete Email address


• d. Click on Update at the bottom of the page
• e. Click on Return to Viewer
